In an international accreditation achievement, the National Methanol Company (Ibn Sina), a subsidiary of SABIC, became the 1st company in the Middle (ME) to be granted accreditation for circular methanol production, from the International Carbon and Sustainability Certificate Program (ISCC), one of the world’s leading accreditation bodies.
Ibn Sina complex – located in the industrial city of Jubail on the eastern coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – can now supply commercial quantities of certified circular methanol made from carbon dioxide, which is extracted, at the United Company plant, one of the SABIC companies, which among the world’s largest CO2 capture and purification plant, providing customers with a new sustainable solution to serve their market.
The adoption of methanol production as a circular product is a great achievement that contributes to achieving carbon neutrality at SABIC.
During the “Saudi Green Initiative Forum” last October, the company revealed its global strategy towards carbon neutrality, and SABIC will continue to exert efforts and explore solutions to achieve neutrality of the carbon dioxide by 2050.
It is worth mentioning that circular methanol is a feedstock in the manufacture of many sustainable and circular products related to the chemical, medical and automotive industries..
Circular methanol production reflects SABIC’s efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through low carbon technologies, operational efficiency, carbon dioxide utilization, and innovative circular solutions.
