GACA, KACST sign MoU to establish center for research and development in air transport safety

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a joint center for research and development in the field of air transport safety.

The MoU aims to support the local content by implementing programs and technologies to manufacture and design aircraft.

The memorandum aims to contribute in supporting aircraft manufacturing and design, drawing a roadmap to support research, development and innovation in the field of air transport safety, both manned and unmanned.

It also aims to achieve sustainability for air transport safety for research and development activities manned and unmanned systems, in addition to the enrichment and innovation in the field of air transport safety.

This comes within the objectives of the civil aviation sector strategy to enhance the scope of cooperation in the field of research and development, which GACA is keen to activate with governmental and non-governmental bodies and institutions specializing in advanced technical fields all in line with the Kingdom’s vision 2030.

The goals of the MoU are to enhancing the infrastructure and technical capabilities to support research, development and innovation in the field of air transport safety, in addition to linking the outputs of scientific research and development with the objectives of manufacturing and marketing for aviation systems.

It also aims to build the capabilities of developing the regulation of unmanned aerial vehicles, including examining their technology, developing concepts, and managing their movement.
