SPARK Obtained Kingdom/s 1st Sustainable Gold Award  

King Salman Energy Park Project (SPARK) has been awarded the Kingdom’s first sustainable gold distinction, par excellence, in the Societies’ Design Phase category, by the Sustainable Building Program of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing.

The program is designed as a comprehensive sustainability assessment system.

SPARK winning of the certificate, was announced, during the inauguration ceremony of the program completion, in Riyadh, in the presence of Prince-minister of energy Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, and other dignitaries.

The sustainable building program aims to address long-term sustainability challenges, and helps cities and communities develop responsible plans, to improve sustainability, environmentally friendly systems, in energy, water, waste and transportation, and many other sectors, that contribute to the quality of life and enhance the local economy, in line with the Kingdom’s ambitious vision, achieving its desired goals.

(SPARK) has achieved the “Golden” level, with distinction, according to a set of criteria and requirements, based on internationally recognized specifications and standards, adopted by the sustainable building program, in evaluating the design of communities.

They include site characteristics, community connectivity, management and operations, water, quality of community life, education, innovation, and energy.

In addition to a sustainable system for the communities (design and construction) mandatory standards, to ensure the achievement of the basic level of sustainability on a large scale.

These standards ensure giving priority to the objectives of the Kingdom Vision 2030.

King Salman Energy Park is designed to be the first integrated global energy center, allowing for efficient and sustainable operations.

Master plan of the park, includes an industrial area, a dry port, a logistics area, in addition to vibrant residential, educational, and commercial areas, where the integrated planning and design process was used to ensure sustainability.

That was adopted, as of the initial planning stages, through the city’s development and project management, until the completion of construction work. The city also provides opportunities for non-industrial investors, such as residential and commercial real estate. This huge project is set to be the main gateway to the regional energy sector, due to its geographical location and proximity to highways and railway networks.

It is noteworthy that SPARK was awarded the LEED Global Certificate of Silver, in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design domain, becoming the first industrial city, in the world, to obtain this certificate.

SPARK has launched an array of initiatives that enhance its international efforts to lead sustainability in the energy sector, include green concrete, that is produced from recycled waste, in addition to other innovative initiatives.

Among, are the first of their kinds, in the Middle East, which would significantly contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of this ambitious project.
