The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property hedl the fourth related council, in collaboration with its partners, in the public, private sectors.
The council aims to link the public sector with the private sector, overcome the difficulties and obstacles facing the private sector, in the field of trademarks and their enforcement, and identify areas of cooperation and support between the two sectors.
The meeting was attended by partners from the Saudi authority, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Ministry of Commerce and more than 47 bodies from the private sector, representing local and international brands and trademark agents.
The council was opened by the CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property Dr. Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Al-Suwailem, speaking about the initiative of the council for respecting Intellectual Property and expressing the importance of intellectual property protection as an essential element of national economic policies.
Intellectual property specialists reviewed the council’s objectives, which lie in activating the role of the private sector in improving enforcement processes, increasing communication and transparency between the authority and the private sector, increasing access to new up-to-dates in various areas that fall under the authority’s scope and responsibilities, and identifying problems and challenges facing the private sector in intellectual property issues.
And work to solve it jointly. It also reviewed the concepts and paths of trademarks from registration to enforcement, in addition to clarifying the intellectual property systems, in Saudi Arabia and the international agreements to which the Kingdom has acceded, presenting the statistics and work of the Intellectual Property and departments concerned with enforcement, and explaining the method and mechanism for filing trademark complaints and the requirements for that.
In addition to allowing for discussion between private and public sector entities, addressing the obstacles facing the private sector, and sharing ideas that help increase the level of respect for intellectual property and reduce trademark violations.
