“National Water” Award 3 contracts to Saudi-led Consortium

 The National Water Company awarded three contracts to a Saudi-French-Philippine alliance that included the Saudi Miyahuna company, the French “Sur” group and the Philippine “Manila Water”, in order that the alliance would undertake the task of operating water and environmental treatment services in the Eastern Province, at a cost that exceeded SR221 million, for a period of seven years, after the approval of the Board of Directors of the National Water Company headed by the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohmsen Al-Fadhli.
The CEO of the National Water Company, Eng. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Mowkley explained that the company is working to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the National Water Strategy by restructuring water distribution services, and engaging the private sector to reach the privatization stage, noting that the company has achieved a 94% completion rate of the restructuring project.
And he indicated that the management contracts are one of the main pillars for improving the sector, and preparing it for full privatization, and with the award of this contract, the awarding of the operation and maintenance management contracts was completed, stressing that the company is working in the future from its executive programs to complete the awarding of management contracts to the remaining sectors, namely the western sector, the southern sector and the northern sector. By the end of December of this year 2021.
These contracts depend on achieving 14 main indicators, the most important of which are: improving and developing the customer experience, raising operational efficiency through cost rationing, reducing water losses, and improving network management, indicating that the contract term is 7 years.
This will enable the National Water Company to move directly to the stage of concession contracts, in which the private sector will take full responsibility for water services.
