Works of the fifth session of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) 2021 began on Tuesday in Riyadh at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center under the title “Invest in Humanity”.
The conference will last for three days, with the participation of more than 2,000 delegations, and 5,000 participants from decision-makers, company leaders, policy makers, investors and innovators from all over the world.
Dr. Adah Almutairi, member of the Board of Trustees of the Future Investment Initiative, delivered a speech on behalf of the Governor of the Public Investment Fund and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Future Investment Initiative Institute, Yasir bin Othman Al-Rumayyan. “The fifth edition of the initiative brings together minds in one of the best regions in the world with the aim of making a positive impact on humanity.” she explained.
Almutairi indicated that the coronavirus pandemic made it clear that what happens in one side of the world can change life in the other side of it, stressing that “the initiative will address vulnerabilities, policies and human health.”
Dr. Adah explained the importance of creating sustainable, measurable and achievable growth for future generations. “The initiative aims to encourage the global community to further invest to achieve more profits in the coming days”
She also noted that the initiative discusses partnerships that contribute to gathering various strengths and how capital is distributed and deployed in technologies and strategies that can bridge global and opportunity gaps, focus on new economies, innovation, job creation, and resource protection while increasing climate and environmental protection measures.
“The economy and the environment shall have strengths. The low-carbon economy is considered an investment and an opportunity at the same time in addition to developing resources needed for the energy security. Sustainability is fundamental to creating a cleaner and safer world, a healthier society, and a healthier economy.” Dr. Almutairi said.
She indicated that the FII is committed to the human future, and methods that make life more secure and protected, calling for considering the initiative as a platform for cooperation and partnership, stressing that “health care, artificial intelligence, robotics and providing solutions to make the world greener, safer and more secure and healthier.”
The former First Lady of Mozambique and South Africa, Graça Machel, explained in a session titled “How the global investment community can launch a new era in human progress.
“In recent decades, humans have faced large and rapid transformations that have contributed to generating knowledge at an unprecedented speed, and this has not been for free,” Graça said.
She explained that the Covid-19 pandemic has deepened the difference between people in two worlds; a world in which people have received 70% of the vaccine, while there is another world that suffers from the threat of the virus, noting that only 4% of the African population has received the vaccine
She stressed the importance of justice in distributing the vaccine, as this is a matter of life or death. She also called on decision-makers to invest in minds, promote justice and build better human solidarity among the peoples of the world to create a brilliant future.
Ray Dalio, Co-CEO of Bridgewater Associates said that the Kingdom is abounding with youth leadership and innovative ideas, indicating that entrepreneurship and technology are elements to have a cohesive world.
“If we do not know how we know together, this system will suffer, and it is important that we determine now how that will be”. He continued in the work of the fifth session of the Future Investment Initiative 2021.
