The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a leading position, in the maritime transport industry, and in maintaining the integrity of its marine environment; highlighting, during its participation in celebrating the World Maritime Day, which falls on the 30th of September, its role in supporting international efforts to advance the maritime transport system.
That system include ships, shipping and ports, and the human element that operate maritime transport services, in general, and plays an important role, in supporting the economy and providing job opportunities, in this sector.
The Kingdom occupies an advanced position in the maritime transport industry.
It has a prominent role in developing this sector as one of the world’s fast developing countries, at the maritime level, amid the wise leadership’s unlimited support for the transport industry, and maritime transport.
The Kingdom ranks 20th in the maritime transport industry globally, among the 174 member states of the organization, after the tonnage of its naval fleet jumped to 13.5 million tons; including 368 tankers and ships.
The Kingdom’s giant commercial fleet plays a pivotal role in the maritime transport industry. Underpinning 90% of its world trade; this reinforces the Kingdom’s position and leadership, at the international level and confirms its keenness to transform into a global logistics center, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The vision focuses, inter alia, on sustainable marine development; as the Kingdom regulates the various international conventions and treaties regulating this industry; not to mention its strategic location linking three continents, and its vast coasts of the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea.
Its waterway through which 13% of the world’s trade flows by this giant industry.
The Kingdom is keen to prepare the best ways to achieve sustainability in the maritime transport industry.
Because of the great importance of maritime transport as an important artery for the movement of global trade, maintaining the environment of the seas and oceans free of pollution, specialized maritime education and training, efforts in empowering women to work in the maritime sector, facilitating maritime traffic, and strengthening their partnerships with member states in the the organization; are among the Kingdom objectives.
The Kingdom maintains this distinguished position and continues to work to become a distinguished model in this vital industry.
Achieving the objectives of the national strategy for transport and logistics requires integration and harmonization between the public and private sectors, by activating existing and future plans and projects, and benefiting from the huge investment opportunities, that are capable of attracting local and international investments, as reflected in the diversification of the national economy and raising the local content.
