SAMA Play Host to 3rd Quarterly Workshop

Deputy Governor of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) for Research and International Affairs, opened the third quarterly workshop of the Central Bank for Islamic Finance, for the year 2021, on Thursday 9, September.

The workshop, under the title “The Role of Educational Programs, in the Development of the Islamic Finance Sector, in the Kingdom,” was virtually held.

Several specialists and people with an interest in the Islamic finance industry attended the event.

This event is part of a quarterly series of Islamic finance-focused workshops, hosted by the Saudi Central Bank.

The purpose of this conference is to explore a variety of connected subjects, in the Islamic finance business.

Dr. Fahad Al-Dosari welcomed the attendees, at the start of the workshop, emphasizing the importance of educational programs in the Islamic financial industry, as one of the strategic pillars in supporting the industry’s qualitative growth, through the development of educational and technical programs tailored to the sector’s needs. According to a report released recently by the Islamic Financial Services Board, the Kingdom ranks first in the world, in terms of Islamic banking assets, accounting for more than 28% of total Islamic banking, globally speaking.

On the other hand, Al-Dosari reviewed the contributions of the Saudi Central Bank, in supporting educational and training programs and supporting research and translation in Islamic finance.

The workshop consisted of four sessions, in a row. Dr. Irum Saba, a faculty member, at the Institute of Management-Pakistan, spoke about “the contribution of educational programs globally to the qualitative development of the Islamic financial sector” in the first session, and presented various types of educational programs, in the Islamic financial sector, as well as the most important experiences of some international institutions in the fiduciary sector.

Dr. Salah Al-Shalhoub, a faculty member at the Saudi Electronic University, spoke about “educational programs in the Kingdom relating to Islamic finance” in the second session.

He shed light on the most notable Saudi university experiences, in building educational programs, as well as the lessons learned and future potential.

Dr. Omar Hafez, a faculty member, at the Institute of Islamic Economics-King Abdulaziz University, spoke about “educational programs, in the Kingdom, related to Islamic finance represented by the Institute of Islamic Economics’ experience,” in which he touched on the Institute of Islamic Economics’ experience, in developing educational programs for the Islamic finance sector.

Dr. Ghayath Naqshbandi, a faculty member, at the American University, in Washington DC, presented “The American University’s Experience, in Designing Educational Programs, in Islamic Finance,” during which he reviewed the experience of the university, in designing and developing educational programs, in Islamic finance.
