The Saudi Cabinet approved organizing the Digital Content Council, with the aim of stimulating the digital content market, enhancing its contribution to the local GDP and creating quality jobs.
The council will allocate 36 initiatives with support amounting to SR4.2 billion, aimed at developing digital content, focusing on expanding the proportion of local content and providing jobs, in four main markets: video, audio, electronic games, and digital advertising.
The council’s objectives include raising the percentage of revenues retained within the local economy, in addition to developing local talent through qualifying and development programs, as well as improving legislation and regulations, in a way that would stimulate the growth of this market.
The Council seeks to regulate and activate the digital content market, in the Kingdom, in three tracks, the first of which is to facilitate the participation of the private sector and entrepreneurs, in the market through rules, regulations and intellectual property rights.
The second is to create integrated governance that stimulates expansion and growth and encourages innovation, in addition to stimulating the digital content market and attracting investments.
The third is the development of digital content infrastructure.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology explained that the Digital Content Council, which was formed in partnership with a number of government agencies, led by the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Investment, the Communications and Information Technology Commission, and the General Authority for Audio-Visual Media, in addition to the Saudi Royal Commission intellectual.
The council will highlight investment opportunities, in the Kingdom, and stimulate entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs to invest in the digital content sector.
