China has vowed to take “all necessary countermeasures” in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement that he will impose an additional 10% tariff on imports of Chinese products.
The decision is set to take effect on Tuesday, amid concerns about escalating trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
The new tariffs will be in addition to the 10% tariffs imposed by Trump earlier this month on Chinese imports.
In a statement issued today, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce responded by saying: “This is commonly known as trying to shift the blame and shirk responsibility.”
The spokesperson stressed that “China is one of the countries with the most stringent and comprehensive anti-drug policies in the world, and it cooperates with the United States and other countries in this field.”
He added: “But the United States has chosen to ignore this reality from the beginning.”
