Brazilian Neymar da Silva, Al Hilal player, bid farewell to Saudi football fans after announcing his official departure from the team after a season of joining the club.
Al Hilal said in a statement on the X platform: “Al Hilal Club Company and Neymar Junior have agreed to terminate the contractual relationship that binds the player to the club by mutual consent.”
In the statement, Al Hilal Club Company expressed its “thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided throughout his representation of Al Hilal, wishing the player success in his sports career.”
Neymar wrote in a message via his Instagram account: To everyone at Al Hilal, to the fans, thank you.
He added: I gave everything to play and I hope we can enjoy better times on the field together.. To Saudi Arabia, thank you for giving me and my family a new home and new experiences here.
Neymar added: “I now know Saudi Arabia and I have friends for life. I have always felt love for the game. I will continue the journey forward to 2034. The future of Saudi Arabia will be amazing. Special things will happen. I will always support this country and I will remain a supporter and follower of Al Hilal.” Neymar, the Brazilian national team’s all-time top scorer, joined Al Hilal in August 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain in a two-season deal estimated at around 100 million euros and a huge salary of the same amount.
Neymar was the most expensive player in the world in 2017, when he moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million euros.
The player – who won the Champions League with Barcelona – only played 7 matches with Al Hilal, with whom he scored one goal and made 3 others, after suffering a severe injury to the cruciate ligament in his left knee during his country’s match against Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers in October 2023.
