European shares were steady in choppy trade on Tuesday, as gains in healthcare and financial services stocks offset broader losses caused by uncertainty over tariffs proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump after his inauguration.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index was flat at 524.15 points.
The financial services sector rose 0.4 percent, helped by a 7.7 percent rise in British asset manager Aberdeen Asset Management after the company reported net inflows in the fourth quarter. Healthcare also advanced 0.4 percent, with drugmaker Novo Nordisk up 1.5 percent.
Carmakers were under pressure, with its sub-index down 0.9 percent. Offshore wind developer Orsted fell 15.3 percent after it reported a 12.1 billion Danish crown ($1.69 billion) impairment charge related to its U.S. portfolio.
Other wind energy stocks, including Vestas Wind Systems, down 4.7%, and Nordex, down 3.6%, fell after Trump suspended federal leasing for offshore wind pending an environmental and economic review.
