Trump raises $170 million for inauguration

US President-elect Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million to fund his inauguration on January 20.

The amount is a record, as top tech executives and major donors have expressed willingness to make significant financial contributions to support funding for the event.

A source familiar with the fundraising campaign, who was not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed that the sums have already been raised so far, according to the Associated Press.

The source said that Trump’s inaugural committee is expected to raise more than $200 million by the end of the campaign, while Trump’s inaugural committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

The committee has not yet disclosed how the donations will be spent, as private donations are typically used to cover the costs of events surrounding the inauguration, such as the swearing-in ceremony itself, as well as the opening parade and lavish ceremonial balls.
