Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, and Theodoros Skilakakis, Minister of Environment and Energy of the Hellenic Republic (Greece), chaired the meetings of the first session of the Energy Committee, emanating from the Saudi-Hellenic Strategic Partnership Council, via video conference, yesterday, January 8, 2025.

The two sides reviewed various areas of cooperation within the framework of the committee’s work, on common topics including electrical interconnection, energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean hydrogen, carbon capture, storage and reuse, the Saudi-Greek cable, and the fiber optic cable system.

The Minister of Energy confirmed that relations between the two countries received a strong boost after the visit of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to Athens in 2022, and the signing of important agreements, including a memorandum of understanding in the field of energy to develop projects such as electrical interconnection and circular carbon economy technologies.

He pointed out that the electrical interconnection project between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Greece confirms the common desire between the two countries to enhance cooperation in the field of energy, indicating that this effort has resulted in the establishment of a special purpose company, the Saudi-Greek Interconnection Company, in addition to the continuous progress in the feasibility study of the project.
