New Year’s Day

30 Dec 2024

Mohammed Hassan Mohammed Al-Naimi

The New Year celebration is one of the largest and most important holidays in the world. Many people spend a lot of money on shopping and buying Christmas gifts during New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve is an occasion for economic recovery for many shops and tourist institutions that respond to the needs and requirements of this night. It is of great importance to expatriates and many people in many countries of the world. In some countries, one-fifth of people borrow to pay for gifts and prepare for the celebration of the holiday.

It seems that the celebration of the new year has become a phenomenon that touches almost all the peoples of the world. They unite in joy at the beginning of the new year, which perhaps will be better than the previous one, especially in light of the economic and social changes that the world experiences from time to time.

Like the rest of the world, many Islamic and Arab countries, especially the Gulf, are witnessing some manifestations of celebrating New Year’s Eve, whether on the streets or inside homes, where families gather on this festive night, which forms a bridge of communication between members of the same family and exchange congratulations and wishes for a new year full of love, brotherhood and peace among all the peoples of the world.

Many shops are witnessing an economic movement in their commercial activity, whose transactions are rising by receiving increasing numbers of customers to purchase the products they need on this night, foremost of which are shops selling “chocolate” products in various forms and tastes, sweets, roses, in addition to hotels that are decorated in their finest images and tourist and entertainment places.

Reports and statistics indicate the economic impact and financial returns in countries that allow the celebration of New Year’s Eve, so that hotel occupancy rates in the emirate of Dubai increased to range from 90 or 95% during New Year’s Eve 2024, and reached full occupancy of 100% for many hotels, especially those overlooking the sea facades or located overlooking the dazzling celebration areas such as the Burj Khalifa area, or near metro stations.

Bookings by overseas tourists visiting Dubai to celebrate the new year 2024 accounted for the largest percentage for many hotels, reaching 70%, according to the CEO of Carlton Hotels, Hosni Abdul Hadi, in the emirate of Dubai.

Dubai International Airport received about 4.4 million passengers from 15 to 31 December 2023, with an average daily traffic of up to 258 thousand passengers to and from Dubai, according to the Emirates news agency “WAM.”
