European stocks were set for their worst week in three on Friday as US President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on the European Union unnerved investors already nervous about the outlook for interest rates.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell 0.8% by 0812 GMT, hitting its lowest in nearly a month and on track for its biggest weekly loss since early September.
Trump said the European Union must buy US oil and gas to make up for its huge trade deficit with the world’s largest economy or face tariffs.
All major European subsectors fell, with banks and miners leading the losses.
