Toyota’s global production fell 12.6% in August for the first time in two months.

This comes as production is disrupted at some of its factories, as the automaker has been hit by a safety certification scandal in its home market and a fierce price war in China.

The company said in a report released today that global production, including that of its subsidiaries Daihatsu Motor and Hino Motors, fell 12.6% in August from a year earlier to 808,023 units.

This came as domestic production fell 23.2% for the first time in two months, and overseas production fell 7% for the sixth straight month, according to Toyota’s report.

Toyota and its luxury brand Lexus’ production fell 11.2% in August for the seventh straight month, while Daihatsu’s production fell 23.1% and Hino’s production fell 8.2% year-on-year last month.

The group’s global sales fell 3.7%, and by more than 9% in Japan, due to the delayed impact of recent regulatory scandals involving fake vehicle safety certificates. Meanwhile, sales of electric vehicles of all types increased by 23.2% last month, with total sales reaching 371,700 units.
