SFD finances a hospital in Saint Lucia with $75 million to rehabilitate it

Today, contracts were signed for contracting and consulting companies to implement the project to rebuild and rehabilitate St. Jude Hospital, which is financed by the Saudi Fund for Development through a soft development loan worth $75 million, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip Joseph Pierre, and Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development.

This important project comes in response to the health needs of the people of Saint Lucia, after St. Jude Hospital was damaged by the effects of the fire that dates back to 2009, so that current health services were transferred from the adjacent stadium to the hospital after it was rebuilt and rehabilitated with the latest medical facilities with a capacity of 100 medical beds, and it serves about 50 thousand beneficiaries annually, and includes maternity wards, an emergency department, surgical operating rooms, and other health services and clinics, which will contribute to enhancing the quality and sustainability of health care and facilitating access to advanced medical services for the people of Saint Lucia.

The contracts were signed by specialized companies in the consulting and construction fields from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Saint Lucia, which enhances this cooperation in terms of exchanging expertise and joint work.

President Philip Joseph Pierre expressed his thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its people, and the Saudi Fund for Development for their support to Saint Lucia to achieve this joint development work.

For his part, the CEO of the Fund affirmed the commitment of the Saudi Fund for Development to promote sustainable social and economic development in developing countries and small island states, and to support the achievement of sustainable development goals, as this project represents an important step in the field of development cooperation, as the hospital reconstruction and rehabilitation project will contribute to empowering local communities and enhancing the health sector’s ability to meet the needs of the residents of the capital and its surrounding areas, in addition to enhancing economic and social growth in Saint Lucia.

It is noteworthy that the Saudi Fund for Development has a long historical record in supporting development projects and programs. Over the course of five decades, the Fund has provided financing for more than 800 development projects and programs in more than 100 developing countries around the world, with a value exceeding $20 billion, to contribute to supporting the sustainable development process in developing countries.
