Huawei completes construction of largest renewable energy plant in the Kingdom

Huawei announced the completion of construction of the world’s largest miniature power plant, with the capacity to generate 1 billion kilowatt-hours of energy annually and provide power to the new Red Sea City project in Saudi Arabia.

The new Red Sea City project, a massive tourism project under construction on the Red Sea coast that is set to cost $500 billion, aims to be the first city to be powered entirely by renewable energy.

Yang Yujie, president of Huawei’s Global Digital Energy Marketing Services Group, said the company has completed construction of the power plant, noting that the power plant can provide 400 megawatts of photovoltaic power and 1.3 gigawatt-hours of energy storage. Huawei has been working on this technology for ten years.

Huawei said that these solutions “have provided 1 kilowatt-hour of green energy supply to the NEOM project since September. Saudi Arabia relies on Huawei to provide power to the Red Sea project. As part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan to restructure the Kingdom’s economy, the project aims to transform 50 islands into luxury tourist destinations that include an airport and several hotels, covering an area of ​​28,000 square kilometers.
