General Motors has unveiled a new all-electric Cadillac, whose design reflects the automaker’s plan to maintain the importance of its high-performance vehicles from the V-Series electric car models.
Cadillac says it balances the extreme luxury and performance of the V-Series, which is known for its high-performance engines.
For his part, Brian Nesbitt, executive director of global design at Cadillac, said during a media briefing: “What we’re really looking for is to achieve the best in the world. Through a car that combines extreme performance, and absolute luxury.”
Cadillac did not reveal many details about the concept car, those details that automakers usually use to gauge customer interest or show the future direction of the car or brand.
The concept car is a sleek sports car with a futuristic look. It features “scissor” doors that rotate vertically with a fixed hinge at the front of the door. Similar to Cadillac’s $300,000 custom Celestiq, the concept aims to take Cadillac to a higher level of luxury to compete with the likes of Lamborghini and electric car startup Rimac, as opposed to traditional rivals. Cadillac is a subsidiary of General Motors’ Luxury Group.
