Health care stocks jumped after the World Health Organization declared the escalating monkeypox outbreak in Africa a public health emergency.
Shares of Danish vaccine maker Bavarian Nordic surged 17% yesterday, with Bavarian Nordic, one of the only companies with an approved MPOX vaccine, up 16.5% in early trading in Copenhagen, Denmark, adding to a 13% gain from the previous session when it said it could meet surging demand for the vaccine.
Shares of U.S. drugmaker Emergent Biosolutions — which produces its ACAM2000 vaccine, one of two recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with Bavarian Nordic’s JYNNEOS — rose in after-hours trading in New York.
Shares of Precision System Science Co, a medical device supplier, jumped 40% in Tokyo.
