European shares open lower as tech losses weigh

European shares fell in early trade on Monday, mirroring a slide in Asian markets as losses in technology stocks weighed on the benchmark index, although a string of positive corporate earnings limited losses.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index was down 0.7% by 0710 GMT.

The materials sector was the biggest sectoral loser, down 1.5% as copper prices fell on rising inventories and a gloomy outlook for global growth. The technology sector fell 1.3%, tracking Asian tech stocks.
