Saudi Aramco signed a non-binding letter of intent to participate in an alliance led by the Spanish company Tecnicas Reunidas and the Chinese Sinopec that aims to develop three gas compression stations worth $2.24 billion.
The stations will be constructed in “Al-Jafoura”, which is the largest unconventional gas field in the Kingdom. “Tecínicas Reunidas” owns 60% in the joint alliance, while “Sinopec” owns the remaining percentage, according to a disclosure issued by the Spanish company on Monday.
The letter of intent also indicates the possibility of installing a 230 kilovolt electricity connection in the gas substation area, in addition to improving the water pumping system.
The Jafurah field represents the largest liquid-rich shale gas layer in the Middle East, as it contains liquefied natural gas, and under its basin there is an estimated 200 trillion standard cubic feet of natural gas, which can contribute to reducing emissions and providing feedstock for future fuel types with carbon emissions. less.
The Jafurah gas field is also expected to supply the refining, processing, marketing and petrochemical sector with several high-value feedstocks.
The Jafurah field development project also represents one of the most ambitious projects in the history of Aramco. The Jafurah Basin, which extends over an area estimated at approximately 17,000 km2, provides a unique opportunity to build a huge project aimed at contributing to the transformation process in the energy sector.
