The world’s first luxury yacht powered by hydrogen fuel cells has been officially put up for sale, according to reports indicating that the value of the unique yacht exceeds $600 million.

According to the Daily Mail, what makes the yacht even more distinctive is that it was rumored for a long time that it was originally built on a commission from the billionaire founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates.

Dubbed Project 821, the 390-foot (119-meter) luxury yacht is designed to run on “green” hydrogen, making it the first in the world to use hydrogen as fuel, which is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity.

The luxury yacht contains two bedrooms, a gym, offices and several bathrooms, giving its owner a feeling like his own luxury home on the surface of the water.

Dutch shipbuilder Feadship said that the launch of this yacht, worth about $646 million, on May 4 at the Amsterdam shipyard, reflects a historical moment in which the world of yachting will change forever.

The newspaper reported, citing the Dutch company, that although the hydrogen fuel used to operate the yacht is stored as a liquid, it must be stored refrigerated at an incredibly low temperature estimated at minus (-423.4) degrees Fahrenheit in carefully designed double-walled tanks.

The eco-friendly luxury yacht took more than five years to build, from design to completion, with no custom add-ons for the end buyer.
