China announces discovery of the largest metamorphic shale oil field in the world

China National Offshore Oil Corporation announced the discovery of the “Puzhong 26-6” oil field, which is the largest metamorphic shale oil field in the world, in the southern Bohai Sea.

The China Media Group said that the confirmed oil and gas reserves in the “Puchong 26-6” field are estimated at more than 40 million cubic meters, while the confirmed cumulative reserve of the field exceeds 200 million cubic meters, as engineers discovered during exploration work a layer of oil and gas reaching a depth To 118 metres.

It is estimated that the field could produce more than 30 million cubic meters of crude oil, which could meet the daily transportation needs of a million or more urban residents for more than 20 years.

The field is also capable of producing more than 11 billion cubic meters of natural gas, meeting the domestic gas consumption of a million or more urban residents for more than 60 years, according to Zhou Jiaxiong, deputy general manager of the company’s Tianjin branch.
