On Sunday, the Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq) announced the successful acquisition of the commercial operation certificate for the Jeddah Althaniya Water Company’s wastewater treatment plant in Jeddah. With an estimated treatment capacity of 300 thousand cubic meters per day, the plant’s commercial operation is retroactively effective from 01/10/2023, following receipt from the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC).
The project strategically addresses the growing demand for sanitary wastewater treatment in Jeddah, incorporating cutting-edge technologies for high treatment efficiency and low energy consumption. The plant’s design and layout are optimized to produce treated effluent suitable for water reuse, while its sludge is repurposed for industrial and commercial applications.
As highlighted in the Tadawul statement, the project will significantly elevate service standards, contributing to environmental sustainability by preserving the natural environment. Leveraging private sector expertise in water and agriculture systems, it aims to enhance resource use efficiency, develop local content, and align with the development goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Marafiq holds a 45% share in Jeddah Althaniya Water Company, the project developer. The financial impact of project operations will be reflected in the company’s fourth-quarter financial results for 2023.
It’s crucial to note that the primary project agreement between Jeddah Althaniya Water Company and the Saudi Water Partnership Company commenced on February 25th, 2019, and is slated to continue for 25 years from the project’s commercial operation date.
