Saudi ‘SASO’ Governor Visits China to Enhance Partnership, Improve Product Quality

Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) Governor Dr. Saad bin Othman Alkasabi visited China with the aim of strengthening the partnership between the two sides and enhancing product quality.

During his trip, he met with several Chinese exporters and manufacturers.

Alkasabi highlighted the Kingdom’s success in advancing its economy to become one of the most competitive in the world, as outlined in the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030. He also highlighted SASO’s product safety initiative, which contributed to a 24% improvement in the Saudi conformity index over the past six years. Consequently, the percentage of products meeting standards in the Saudi market has increased to 82.17%.

SASO also organized a series of introductory workshops in various Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing. The workshops were actively attended by individuals interested in the industrial sector and exporters of products to the Saudi market. The workshops aimed to explain the technical requirements for exporting to the Kingdom and introduce the initiative and its associated programs, such as the Saber e-platform.

As part of the visit, meetings were held with Tian Shihong, the vice-minister of State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the administrator of Standardization Administration of China (SAC), as well as Shi Yonghong, the vice president of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME). The discussions covered various topics of mutual interest, including strengthening partnerships with stakeholders in China, and provided information about the Saudi technical requirements.

The SASO delegation included Abdurrahman Al-Harbi, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to China, and Saleh Al-Ghurair, the commercial attaché of the Saudi embassy in China.
