Major indices on Wall Street opened higher on Tuesday as increased bets on an early cut in interest rates from the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) lifted investor sentiment after the Christmas holiday.
According to Reuters, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 19.93 points, or 0.05%, at the opening to 37,405.90 points.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 4.23 points, or 0.09 percent, to 4,758.86 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index also rose 35.72 points, or 0.24%, to 15,028.69 points.
