The managing director of the American electric car manufacturer Lucid Motors in the Middle East revealed that the Lucid Group has assembled nearly 800 cars at its factory in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since its opening, with its main focus on training more than 200 local employees.
Faisal Sultan said in his interview with Reuters that the car is completely manufactured in Arizona, dismantled, and reassembled in Saudi Arabia, noting that workers in the factory in Jeddah are reconnecting the battery, reinstalling the tires, and testing the car.
Sultan noted that the Saudi factory is a small operation for them, and attributed the reason for keeping it at this level to the desire to take small steps in their approach to training individuals. Lucid is preparing employees, half of whom are Saudis, to open a complete construction unit, meaning a factory capable of manufacturing a car in 2026. Its construction has begun.
Sultan pointed out that the opening of the complete construction unit depends on supply chains and workforce development. Lucid, a California-based company, opened its first factory outside the United States in September, with an initial capacity to produce 5,000 electric cars annually, after the Saudi government pledged to purchase up to 100,000 vehicles from them over a period of 10 years.
The Public Investment Fund, which owns more than 60% of Lucid shares, has invested billions in the company, as part of the government’s plans to create a center for the electric car industry.
