Statistics: Spending on research and development grew by ‎‎32.7% during 2022‎

Today, the General Authority for Statistics announced the research and development statistics bulletin for the year 2022 AD, as the results of the bulletin indicated that the value of spending reached 19.2 billion riyals, an increase of 32.7% compared to the year 2021 AD.

The results of the bulletin showed the relative distribution of funding between sectors, as the value of funding in the government sector amounted to 11.1 billion riyals, representing 58% of the total funding for research and development, constituting the largest share of funding compared to the rest of the sectors, while the value of funding in the private sector amounted to 7.5 billion riyals, representing 39% of the total financing value, while the financing percentage in the education sector represented 3% of the total financing, with a value of 558 million riyals.

The Authority indicated that, compared to the year 2021 AD, the total number of researchers in the field of research and development during the year 2022 AD increased by 21.6%, bringing the number of researchers to 30.16 researchers, as the educational sector constituted 89% of the total number of researchers, amounting to 26.75 thousand researchers. It was followed by the private sector with a rate of 6% and a number of 1.81 thousand researchers, then the government sector with a rate of 5% and a number of 1.59 thousand researchers.
