SAMA: State general reserve reaches SR338.2 billion by the end of January

The statistical data of the Saudi Central Bank revealed a decrease in the government reserve during January to SR338.227 billion, a decrease of SR8.9 billion, or 2.6%, from its levels in December, which were sr347.166 billion, while it decreased by SR24.7 billion riyals, or 7%, from its levels in January 2021, which were SR362.952 billion.

According to the Saudi Central Bank’s Monthly Statistical Bulletin of January 2022, the government current account rose to SR41.3 billion at the end of January 2022, an increase of SR3.2 billion by 8.4%, compared to its levels in December 2021, which were SR38.1 billion, while a decrease of SR35 billion was recorded by 45.8%, compared to its levels in January of 2021, which was SR76.2 billion.

During March 2017, SAMA merged the allocations for government projects with the state’s general reserve under one item (the state’s general reserve).

The state reserve account consists of the surplus that is transferred in the budget revenues, and it is not permissible to withdraw from it except by a royal decree in cases of extreme necessity related to the higher interests of the state.
