Asian Shares mostly Fall Monday

Asian shares mostly fell Monday, though Shanghai’s benchmark jumped after markets reopened from the Lunar New Year holidays, the Associated Press reported.

Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 lost 0.8% to 27,229.97. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.1% to 7,110.80. South Koreas Kospi declined 0.4% to 2,738.42. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dipped 0.3% to 24,501.54, while the Shanghai Composite added 2% to 3,427.81.

In energy trading, benchmark U.S. crude fell 26 cents to $92.05 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It surged $2.04 on Friday to $92.31. Brent crude, the international standard, added 27 cents to $93.54 a barrel.

In currency trading, the U.S. dollar edged up to 115.33 Japanese yen from 115.28 yen. The euro cost $1.1431, down from $1.1461.
