Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration concluded the sixth edition of the “Mediation for Settlement of Commercial Disputes” program, the first intensive training program of its kind in the Kingdom.
It was held in the cities of Riyadh and Jeddah, in partnership with the International Center for Dispute Resolution of the American Arbitration Association (ICDR-AAA).
The knowledge and skills necessary to practice commercial mediation in accordance with the latest international practices, are among courses taught.
The program was presented by the international expert in mediation, Dr. Imad El-Din Hussein, a fellow of the British Royal Society of Arbitrators (FCIArb), an international mediator approved by the Center for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), and a member of the Institute of International Business Law, at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), in the presence of a selection of lawyers and legal advisors, specialists, mediators, arbitrators, and those interested in alternatives to settling disputes, from several companies, business sectors, government agencies and professional bodies.
Over the course of four consecutive days of intensive training, the trainees engaged in mock mediation cases simulated by the program trainer; to create an integrated virtual experience that contributes to the transfer of knowledge and skills necessary to practice mediation.
The theoretical part of the program also included a definition of mediation, its stages, values and ethics, the role and skills of the mediator, and the settlement agreement.
The convening of the program comes in light of the official support of the mediation industry, in the Kingdom, from the decision maker, manifested in the Kingdom’s initiative to sign the Singapore Agreement on Mediation, and to activate amicable means for settling disputes, in its justice system.
The Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration is the first dispute settlement center, in the Kingdom, that has developed mediation rules, in accordance with the highest international standards and practices followed, in partnership with the International Center for Dispute Resolution of the American Arbitration Association (ICDR-AAA) since 2016.
