In a gradual recovery of air traffic, in the Kingdom, Riyadh-Jeddah air route, was named among the 10 most popular itinerary, recent data released by the British OAG company revealed.
The British firm specializes in monitoring the volume and regularity of air traffic between various air routes, in the world’s airports.
It classifies air routes into 4 categories, to reflect on the volume of work, in general, and at the two international airports as they are major destinations, in particular, in the Middle East.
The Kingdom has taken accelerated steps to develop the aviation sector for the post-Coronavirus pandemic, to revive the regional markets, greatly affected by the suspension of domestic and international flights, as Saudi Arabia have adopted several measures to realize a gradual return to normality, in accordance with the set of controls and requirements.
According to the aviation sector strategy, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia seeks to rank 5th globally, in air traffic, with an increase in destinations to more than 250 international destinations and raising the capabilities of the air cargo sector to reach more than 4.5 million tons, meanwhile raising the number of arrivals to perform Umrah and religious visit, to as much as 30 million, annually.
The four categories that made Saudi Arabia to rank among the most and the top 10 tracks, in the world, are the best internal itinerary, the most popular roads in the Middle East, and the most popular roads with Africa, according to the British OAG data.
The data showed that the itinerary from Jeddah to Riyadh falls in the 10th place, globally, and was among the most popular domestic routes in December, with a total number of 568,713 seats.
Among the busiest international routes, Dubai-Riyadh and Cairo-Riyadh came as the first and second, with a capacity of as much as 284,552 seats, for Dubai-Riyadh and 282,413 seats for Cairo-Jeddah, in the previous days of December 2021.
The route Dubai-Jeddah appears as the 5th largest international route, with 214,006 seats, in at least the first 3-week, of December 2021.
