The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (Tahliya) has put set the 1st quarter of 2022 as the date for operating the first commercial system in the world, using nanotechnology to produce magnesium and pump it into the produced water.
Such a highly sophisticated technology would contribute to promoting health and raising the quality of life, using the zero-saline technology that is used to develop aspects of investment, for many basic industries that enhance the national economy.
This was unfolded, during the visit of the Governor of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, Eng. Abdullah Al-Abdul Karim to the Shuaiba production systems, in its 4th and 5th phases, operating through the reverse osmosis technology, that is environmentally friendly and less energy-consuming.
In addition, it utilizes the latest applications and solutions of artificial intelligence, to achieve the goals of operational excellence and raise production efficiency, as well as to meet the growing need for desalinated water, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The Shuaiba production system, in its 4th stage, is among the largest production systems that operate with reverse osmosis technologym in the Kingdom, with the aim of feeding Makkah, Jeddah and Taif, with a design capacity of 400,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day, while the components of this system include primary treatment systems for sea water.
In addition to 20 reverse osmosis units for the first stage, equipped with the latest energy recovery systems, as well as 10 reverse osmosis units for the second stage, and the final treatment systems for desalinated water.
The 4th phase of the Shuaiba system was designed and built on the latest engineering ideas and the most efficient technical systems, which led to reducing operational costs, maintaining the highest standards of performance, and adhering to all environmental requirements.
For its part, the modern control and monitoring systems have increased the reliability factor and reduced the need for human intervention, as the number of employees in the system is only 60 workers.
Furthermore, the system’s ability to work according to many operational requirements that enable to increase the quantities produced with high quality, which in turn reflected in achieving a record number.
The cost of producing a cubic meter of desalinated water amounted to SR1.27 per cubic meter.
His Excellency the Governor of Tahlia reviewed the mechanism of the work of artificial intelligence applications in the Shuaiba system, focusing on the 4th stage, through the integrated platform for smart operation and maintenance, which included the intelligent asset efficiency management system, the chemical materials management system, the energy management system, the applications of artificial intelligence, in maintenance, the decision-making room, robots and tools.
As well as ssistance, Internet of Things sensors, and a smart quality inspection laboratory.
He was also briefed on fire forecasting systems, the smart visitor system, the smart vehicle and parking management system, the integrated security management system (ISMS), the smart safety management system and its link with international safety standards, in addition to full and live coverage solutions.
He also inspected the integrated platform for 3D simulation, including the augmented reality room for virtual tours for visitors to the systems, virtual reality tools and programs to simulate maintenance, operation, training and safety operations, and 3D imaging drones.
