WTO Chief Praises Kingdom’s Constructive Role Played

The Director-General of the World Trade Organization Dr. Ngozi Iweala praises the Kingdom’s role, in enhancing global trade.

These remakes were uttered, following a meeting, in Geneva with the Minister of Commerce, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Foreign Trade Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi.

At the outset, the Director-General welcomed the Saudi delegation, led by the minister, praising the leading role played by the Kingdom in international trade, in terms of maintaining the multilateral trading system.

In addition to further efforts exerted by the Kingdom, in various fields of the WTO workings, especially, in the capacity of presiding over the Arab Group, in the WTO.

She praised the Kingdom’s success, in combating the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, in particular, as well as contribution to ensuring promoting equitable access to vaccines, to various countries of the world, including the Middle East and Africa.

Lauding the Kingdom Vision 2030 for its ambitious objective that contribute to promoting economic diversification and empowering much more women, she stressed that the move falls in line with reform process, encouraged by the WTO.

For his part, the Minister of Commerce gave full support to the wise decision taken by the organization, to postpone the 12th ministerial conference, in the light of the outbreak of a new strain of the Coronavirus, in order to preserve the safety of all and to ensure the participation of all delegations of member states, in the ministerial conference, if it is to be held, at the earliest and appropriated opportunity, to come.

There is a need to intensify efforts by all member states to make the ministerial conference a success, and work to bridge the differences among them, to reach positive results, according to a specific timetable, in to preserve the credibility and future of the WTO, he commented.

Al-Qasabi expressed the Kingdom’s support for the efforts made by the organization, in responding to the Coronavirus pandemic and in confronting resulting economic and social repercussions.

Kingdom’s support for the efforts of member states, to bolster the reform process, is a firm stance, he reasserted, pointing to its support for the World Trade Organization, keenness to enhance ways of cooperation and maximize the Kingdom’s benefit from its membership, in the organization.
