For ethylene glycol, at its Jubail-based United subsidiary

SABIC Start Trial Operation of 3rd Ethylene Plant

SABIC started trial operation of the third phase of the third plant, for the production of ethylene glycol, at its subsidiary Jubail-based United Petrochemical Company (United), with an annual production capacity of about 700,000 metric tons of mono-ethylene glycol.

It is expected that the financial impact of this step will be reflected in the company’s results, after the completion of the trial operation phase and the start of commercial operation.

Through this additional production capacity, SABIC seeks to maintain its position as the largest producer of ethylene glycol, in the world.

The new plant will use innovative technologies to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency, in line with SABIC’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations, by using resources sustainably.

For his part, the Executive Vice President of the Petrochemicals Unit, at SABIC, Abdul Rahman Al-Faqih, stressed that this trial operation adds the production capabilities of the ethylene glycol, which enhances capacity to serve customers globally, and come closer to achieving the Kingdom Vision 2030, and become the preferred global company, in the field of chemicals and petrochemicals, as well.

SABIC seeks to meet the global demand for ethylene glycol, in key sectors, such as: polyester fibers and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

Ethylene glycol is an important industrial solvent, used to make polyesters, plasticizers, and unsaturated resins.

It is used as a softening agent to make adhesives more flexible, as well as an important ingredient in formulations of brake fluids, pastes, and pigments.
