Annual inflation jumped by 0.8%, in Oct

Consumer price index (CPI)) following up inflation level, per month, grew by 0.8%, on an annual basis, in October 2021, compared to 0.2% in the previous September, due to price increases in transportation and food and beverages segments.

Transportation group saw a 6.4% increase in the previous month, owing to a 21.5% increase in the operating prices of personal transportation equipment, influenced by a 47.9% annual increase, in gasoline prices, according to statistics’ authority’s monthly report.

Given its weight in the index, the authority stated that the increase in the transportation category had an impact on yearly inflation.

The food and beverage sector increased by 1.4% in October, owing to a 1.5% increase in food costs year on year.

The authority tracked down a 1.2% increase in the communications group, which was impacted by a 2.3% increase in the price of telephone and fax services, and a 4.8% increase in the education group, impacted by a 13.6% increase in the price of intermediate and secondary education.

Prices in the restaurants and hotels group increased by 1.5%, owing to a 3.9% increase in hotel services and furnished apartments, as well as a 1.2% increase in entertainment prices, due to the pressure of a 2.5% increase in audio-visual and photographic equipment, and information processing.

The clothes and footwear group, on the other hand, had a 1.6% drop, owing to a 1.2% drop in clothing prices, while the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels group, have saw a 2.6% drop.

On a monthly basis, October CPI rose 0.2%.

The monthly inflation index was impacted by a 3.9% increase in education and a 1.1% increase in restaurants and hotels.

Transportation costs fell by 0.5% on a monthly basis, while food and beverage costs fell by 0.4% and health care costs fell by 0.3%.

Prices for communications services, entertainment and culture, and different personal goods and services, on the other hand, were unchanged, in October, from the previous month.
