Going back to last week, we find the establishment of the “Green Saudi Initiative Forum” and the “Green Middle East Initiative Summit”, the two initiatives announced by His Highness, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman late last March, and which received great international interaction.
Considering this trend, the Crown Prince launched a package of new environmental initiatives, these initiatives represented investments worth more than 700 billion Saudi riyals that would create job and investment opportunities for the private sector and develop the green economy in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. The Crown Prince announced the Kingdom’s work on Establishing and establishing many initiatives aimed at a green era in the future that reaps the fruits of all. Among these initiatives were: a cooperation platform to implement the concept of a circular carbon economy, a fund to invest in solutions for carbon circular economy technologies in the region, and a global initiative that contributes to providing clean fuel solutions to save Food for more than 750 million people worldwide.
This interest pushes all ministries in the Kingdom to plan for the future to play the role required of them in achieving the “Green Saudi Initiative”, and among these ministries is the Ministry of Education, and to benefit from global experiences and expertise in this regard.
Here comes the reference to the UNESCO Program on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development, which was established in 2010, and this program aims to help people understand climate change by expanding the activities of climate change education in non-formal education, but through the media. Communication and partnerships. It is based on the holistic approach to Education for Sustainable Development that integrates key sustainable development issues such as climate change, disaster risk reduction and others into education in a way that addresses the interrelationships between environmental sustainability, economic viability, and social justice.
This program also promotes participatory teaching and learning methods that motivate learners and empower them to change their behavior and take action for sustainable development. The program seeks to help people understand the impact of global warming and increase “climate education” especially among young people and aims to make education a more central part of the response International Climate Change. Considering this objective, UNESCO has worked with national governments to integrate education on climate change into national curricula and to develop innovative teaching and learning curricula to do so.
Hence, we point out that there are many global experiences and expertise in the field of education’s contribution to climate change and the green economy, most notably the experience of Australia in 2009, when education in the field of climate change was more visible in the technical and vocational training sector, and a national sustainability plan, action and policy was published. For the Technical and Vocational Training Sector (2009 – 2012) This plan included many initiatives, these initiatives aimed at providing workers with the skills necessary to transition to a low-carbon economy and aimed at providing technical and vocational training teachers with training programs to promote education for sustainability. There are many experiences and experiences in China, Denmark and England all revolving around the contribution of education to climate change and the green economy.
In conclusion, the king of education in all its aspects and all its employees has the task of spreading the goal and culture of “Green Saudi 2030”.
