SAMA Issue Insurance Policy Model against Professional Medical Malpractice

The Central Bank of Saudi Arabia (SAMA) announced the issuance of the model version of the insurance policy against professional medical malpractice or errors, scheduled to take effect on 01/01/2022.

The step falls within the continuous efforts to develop the insurance sector and protect the rights of the insured, and the powers assigned to it under the Cooperative Insurance Companies Control System, taking into account what are set forth in the Health Professions Regulations, that all doctors and dentists shall compulsory obtain an insurance policy against professional medical errors.

SAMA indicated that the approved formula aims to provide the minimum requirements to be available in the insurance policy, that medical practitioners are obligated to obtain against professional medical practice errors.

The minimum coverage, exceptions and coverage of the required insurance benefits that would lead to enhancing the concept of sustainability among health service providers and providing the due limits for compensation for the benefit of those affected by professional medical errors.

The Saudi Central Bank expressed thanks and appreciation of the Saudi Health Council for its continuous cooperation and efforts, in this regard.
