Riyadh’s bustling streets greet me with a symphony of sounds: the persistent hum of traffic, with horns blaring around, juxtaposed with the peaceful call to prayer and the sounds of people walking to the mosques.
This time, my visit to Riyadh feels different. It feels more vibrant, more alive and filled with a sense of promise.
My journey back to Riyadh was driven by my desire to witness the city’s ongoing transformation firsthand, and to engage with close friends of mine, and potential clients, and also to immerse myself in the life of the city on the cusp of monumental change.
Each moment I’ve spent here in this beautiful city has been a revelation. I’ve shared meals and conversations with remarkable individuals, whose stories aid my understanding of this amazing place.
The economic landscape of Riyadh is transforming at a breathtaking pace. Notable developments like Sports Boulevard and the towering skyscrapers of KAFD are testaments to KSA’s ambitious vision for the future. The new tunnel constructions and continuous architectural advancements underscore a city poised for growth.
As a legal recruiter, I’ve noticed a significant shift in how companies are expanding their Saudi operations. There’s a real excitement in the corporate and commercial space, with ministries spearheading transformative projects led by exceptionally talented, driven individuals who dream massive dreams for this country. Riyadh is increasingly being seen as a global hub for business, similar to Dubai, it offers a safe and dynamic environment for families and professionals alike.
The entrepreneurial spirit in Riyadh is infectious. Local businesses thrive on word-of-mouth, emphasising the importance of exceptional service to maintain and grow their client base. There’s a collective drive among entrepreneurs in the Kingdom to reshape global perceptions of Saudi Arabia, focusing on ambition rather than mere financial gain.
For international businesses, particularly those from the UK, Riyadh presents a landscape ripe with opportunity. The demand for talent is high, and the rapid speed of growth means that companies must adapt quickly or risk being left behind.
As I discussed with a friend of mine recently, sectors like sports law are poised for significant expansion, especially with the upcoming World Cup in 2034, presenting untapped opportunities for niche expertise.
Socially, Riyadh is a place filled with kindness and hospitality. The Saudi people, along with expats from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Lebanon, and other countries, exemplify a culture of generosity and warmth.
There’s a genuine concern around that Western influences could alter these cultural traits, but the prevailing sentiment is one of resilience and preservation.
Interactions with locals reveal a society that is both socially astute and deeply welcoming. The camaraderie and respect I’ve experienced during dinners and coffees highlight a social culture that is evolving, yet remains true to its values. The excitement in Riyadh is palpable, with both Saudis and international observers eager to witness the city’s unfolding narrative.
Riyadh is changing daily, and the momentum is impossible to ignore. My friends, while eager to explore educational opportunities abroad, are equally invested in the city’s future, as are countless others worldwide.
Looking ahead, I foresee a future where Riyadh becomes a magnet for global business and cultural exchange. The city’s evolution should be viewed as a testament to its resilience and ambition, a place where tradition and modernity come together to create a unique and vibrant environment.
During my stay, I have been staying in the north of Riyadh, where the energy is electric. KAFD stands as a beacon of progress, surrounded by vibrant spaces perfect for socialising and enjoying the city’s café culture. Places like U Walk are great to meet up with friends, drink coffee, eat food and relax.
Attending football matches like Al Nassr vs. Al Ahli and Al Riyadh vs. Al Hilal offered insights into the city’s football fever. The passion of the fans, both home (Al Nassr) and away (Al Hilal) was evident, filling the stadiums with an exhilarating energy that speaks volumes about Riyadh’s dynamic spirit.
